Pub Games Evening at SBC – Update

A very enjoyable evening for members and friends was held in the clubhouse on Saturday 28th October.
Five teams of 4 pitted their skills against each other on a variety of games (8 in all) including Darts, Golf, Bar Billiards, Bagatelle, Shove Halfpenney, Hoops; as often happens it is not the most practiced players that come through victorious. Bar Billiards, noted for trying to avoid the mushrooms, caused a few upsets and scoring well at the ring board proved to be a challenge. There was “no love lost” when it came to nudging the opposition’s golf ball sitting on plus 5 on to the square scoring minus 5! – don’t know what you mean!!!!!!!
There were many highlights during the course of the evening, one being the tasty and elaborate “ploughman’s” supper provided by our esteemed Secretary, Toby, which was consumed with relish by those participating!
When it comes to playing a friendly game of darts and your team has played the joker to double their points, it becomes a little serious and frustrating when (unable to achieve the exact score to finish after several minutes by either tea) the Games Master steps in and states that ‘nearest the bull’ will decide. The inevitable happened – the non-darts player scored a bull’s eye!!
Many moments of hilarity made the evening entertaining and good fun and a good time was had by all.
As usual some kitchen elves suddenly appeared to help with the clearing up for which the organisers were very grateful.

Harold Ford Cup

Big congratulations to Romney and co. for their success on Tuesday afternoon, in winning the H F Cup – even if it was only by 1 shot.
The team was
  • Romney, Jackie and Geoff at Salisbury;
  • Howard, Ann M and John H at Wilton;

Party Party Party Party

I have to say the members of Salisbury Bowling Club know how to party……..!

They party inside with their sanding, filling and painting.

They continue down the corridor and party in the kitchen and the toilets with their cloths, rollers and soapy water.

They continue outside and party round the green pulling up weeds etc and putting rink liners back in place.

Not done with with that, they party round the green with benches and seating and table and teak oil.

As if that wasn’t enough they dance round the place with jet washes, up the walls, along the gutters and down on the ground with all kind of attachments.

Occasionally it all got too much so they rested and had a cup of Tea / Coffee courtesy of Romney.

A big thank you to all who turned up today from early doors throughout the morning to enable the green to be set up ready for play this afternoon – you know who you were, so no name to name check you.

However, two people do need a special mention Paul Mortimer and Geoff Bull for the sterling work on the interior on the clubhouse.

As the Chinese proverb goes ‘many hands make light work’ and today showed how much can be achieved.

Everybody enjoyed themselves whether bowling or spectating.

Well done to you all.
