Visit Salisbury

Salisbury is situated in the south of Wiltshire, close to the south coast with Bournemouth, Poole and Southampton all within 25-30 miles.

Salisbury is home of the famous Salisbury Cathedral, Salisbury and South Wiltshire Museum, and Old Sarum Castle. There is also The Wardrobe (The Salisbury Museum of the Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Wiltshire Regiment).

On Salisbury Plain, a few miles from Salisbury, is the megalithic stone circle of Stonehenge. Also nearby is Wilton House. A kilometre north of the Salisbury Bowling Club is Old Sarum, site of the original cathedral and castle, contained within steep Iron Age earthworks.

Salisbury has entertainment with the Salisbury Playhouse, Salisbury Arts Centre, and the Odeon and Everyman cinemas.

The Cathedral Close can be described as a walled city within the city, it contains period houses including Mompesson House, a National Trust property, and Malmesbury House, originally built in 1327. The church of St. Thomas a Becket, a former “chapel of ease” for the cathedral, is close by.

The Cathedral spire rises over the water meadows, immortalised in John Constable’s paintings of Salisbury Cathedral.

The Market Place has held regular markets since 1227 and regular markets are still held on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
